Elvis and Me - Wikipedia

Who is Priscilla Beaulieu Presley? A misunderstood, caring person or a manipulative, power driven woman? As noted in the introductory Author's Note to Child Bride , the writing of the book led to the opening of a Pandora's Box surrounding its subject and the examination of an often told story that was found to be part fact-part fiction. At the outset it must be noted that much of the material in the book about the sexual awakening of Ms Presley relies on the account of Currie Grant once part of Elvis' inner circle and the veracity of his story has been questioned more than once. Child Bride is never boring and it certainly is more "juicy" than Ms Presley's own memoir, Elvis and Me.

Elvis and Me: The True Story of the Love Between Priscilla Presley and the King of Rock N' Roll

But a closer look at his life beyond the music and swinging hips reveals that he was just as much the king of exploiting teenagers for sex and treating women like shit. Elvis was born January 8, in Tupelo, Mississippi, but moved to Memphis, Tennessee, with his family 13 years later. He was said to love singing in church, but his professional music career didn't start until , when he signed with Sun Records; before that, he'd been a truck driver. Two years later, he was wildly famous. The man was everywhere, and always with a swarm of screaming fans around to greet him. But while on tour, Elvis's main focus wasn't "taking care of business. Williamson writes that while on tour, Elvis preyed on a group of three year-old girls who would pillow fight, tickle, wrestle, and kiss Elvis, who was 22 at the time.

You obviously don't need the money. I hate attention. When I have to speak in public, I get so neurotic that I lose control of my tongue, my legs, and whatever else. If I'm standing in front of a lot of people, I feel that they are thinking about me, their speculation. But I want to be heard. I have been writing and recording songs since I was 20, for cathartic reasons, as an outlet.

Gripped by a pills-a-day painkiller addiction which had turned him into a bloated, 25st wreck, his heart was double the normal size when it finally gave out 40 years ago today. Trusted bodyguards Sonny and Red West had for years begged Elvis to seek help for his constant pill-popping. When they published a tell-all book lifting the lid on his drug shame days before he died, aged 42, it drove The King to the brink. He effectively fired his conscience. Reading those truths tore him apart. Elvis was due to start a tour in Portland, Maine, the day after his death but feared becoming a laughing stock on stage. His image was everything to him and it was untarnished until then.

In the book, Priscilla talks about meeting Elvis Presley , their marriage, and the factors and issues that led to the couple's divorce. Priscilla wrote that Elvis did not approve of his father Vernon's relationship with divorcee Dee Stanley and did not attend their wedding. After the marriage Elvis bought a home on Dolan Drive in Memphis where Vernon and his new wife resided. On the rare occasions Dee Stanley-Presley came to Graceland, Elvis did his best to at least be civil towards his stepmother. Priscilla describes how her father reluctantly allowed her to live in Memphis, Tennessee to be near Elvis. The initial arrangement was that Priscilla would live with Vernon and Dee while attending a Memphis Catholic school. Contrary to this arrangement, Priscilla gradually moved in with Elvis.
