Great books about siblings — super springboards for talking about sibling issues or to simply celebrate having brothers and sisters. Sibling relationships provide some of the deepest bonds we share. Each relationship is unique, but you will often find common themes that pop up at one time or another. Jealousy, love and togetherness to name just a few. What other books about siblings would you add to this list?

In my fantasy family life, it would be all love and unity all the time between my four little girls. These 15 books explore all sides of the sibling dynamic and have been wonderful for gently introducing delicate conversations about how we want our family relationships to grow and develop. In this delightful picture book, written and illustrated by sibling team Jennifer and Matthew Holm, an "evil princess" and a "brave knight" share a castle together — and take their right to torture one another seriously! Though it seems like it's their sole mission to wreak havoc, can the Magic Mirror get them to play nice? This one starts helpful conversations about how to interact with a grouchy sibling. Amanda wants to be big just like her brother Oliver. Oliver and Amanda Pig are one of my favorite fictional sibling duos and they perfectly capture the best and not-so-best moments of being brother and sister.

The addition of a new baby is an exciting experience for a family. Who is this new person? Will this baby replace me?

Keep your family well read

Until I was seven I shared my childhood very closely with two cousins whose mother looked after me on a daily basis. It was undoubtedly a sibling-type relationship and it wasn't until a move to the other end of the country took me away from them that my status as 'only child' really hit home. After that I remember immersing myself in Enid Blyton books where groups of siblings - along with the odd cousin plus dog - abounded. I even made up imaginary siblings to keep me company, creating my own little fantasy world using these characters - a sort of sibling-based internal soap opera if you like. Of course, real sibling relationships are complex and strong positive and negative emotions can exist simultaneously and it is therefore no wonder they are such fantastic material for fiction.
