Milk and Honey

Madison Guzy , Features Editor August 21, The book Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur is a collection of poems with illustrations by the author herself. Kaur takes inspiration from her life experiences to write about family, violence, love, heartbreak, abuse, and femininity. The book is split into four parts — the hurting, the loving, the breaking, and the healing. Kaur took time to organize the book into the order of her journey in life, and it is inspiring to see her grow despite the heart-wrenching reality.

It is about the experience of violence, abuse, love, loss, and femininity. It is split into four chapters, and each chapter serves a different purpose, deals with a different pain, heals a different heartache. I first heard about milk and honey via social media when I saw my followers posting short excerpts and raving about the inspiration they found. I assumed that, because it reached such a wide audience, the poems would be surface level and lack authenticity. What I found instead was a collection immersed in emotion and experience.
